Light Night on Friday 14 May sees Liverpool showcasing an amazing array of attractions from the City’s museums, galleries and cultural venues.
And Liverpool ONE has joined in the programme of events with an exclusive preview of the 2010 Liverpool Art Prize.
The Liverpool Art Prize, founded in 2008 by artinliverpool.com, is a contemporary art competition open to professional artists based or born in Merseyside. This year’s exhibition is taking place at Metal, Edge Hill Station from 3 June but organisers have teamed up with Liverpool ONE to showcase 17 pieces of the competition artwork for a special preview on Light Night.
Said Estate Director Chris Bliss: “Light Night is a fantastic initiative and whilst we are open for late night shopping and dining throughout the week, we’re delighted to be able to offer a cultural element on Light Night with this exclusive exhibition preview. We really hope our shoppers will engage with it, and that it will bring something a little different to their Friday evening.”
The exhibition will take place on College Lane and New Manesty’s Lane, and there will also be a chance to meet some of the artists who will be exhibiting their work.
Founder of the Liverpool Art Prize, Ian Jackson comments: “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase some of the truly wonderful entries we have received and hopefully bring these incredible works to a new audience.”
The exhibition is open from 6pm until 8pm, and a performance from a string quartet will accompany proceedings.
New Catalan deli, Lunya will be treating visitors to a selection of Spanish canapés throughout the event, creating an atmosphere similar to that of a VIP gallery opening.
Many stores at Liverpool ONE will stay open until 9pm in celebration of Light Night with restaurants as usual remaining open ‘til late.
