The Private Viewing on Thursday February 28th 2008 was a great success with around 400 people attending.
The exhibition was opened by Phil Redmond.

artinliverpool.com is pleased to announce that Imogen Stidworthy is the overall winner of the Liverpool Art Prize 2008.

The People's Choice prize has been won by the Singh Twins after over 440 votes from the general public were counted.

The prizes were presented by Paul Hyland of DSG and Arthur Diamond at a special awards ceremony at the Contemporary Urban Centre where the exhibition will continue until May 7 2008

Stidworthy’s focus is on aspects of communication. She looks at how language occupies public and private spaces, and uses it as a sculptural material to explore relationships between body, voice and subject.

Opening with the Liverpool Art Prize 2008 exhibition on Feb 28 and the Hawkins & Co exhibition on March 6, volunteer staff are urgently required for invigilating and possibly other duties.

The Liverpool Art Prize is a new competition of contemporary art open to professional artists based in the Merseyside area¹ of the United Kingdom.

The inaugural competition is taking place in Spring 2008 and was inspired by the fact that the Tate Turner Prize was held in Liverpool in 2007.

The exhibition is co-curated by Tomas Harold of Mercy. Mercy is a print, events and exhibitions based arts organisation that specialises in providing platforms for emerging artists - on an international level.
